Portrait of Mytam Mayo-Smith

My name is Mỹtâm.

I’m a dancer, collaborator, facilitator, and dance-movement therapist based in Paris. My work moves between artistic, therapeutic, educational, and community spaces, and is centered on creating shared moments where we can be present, sensitive, creative together; where we can reflect on the cultures we are part of and our ways of seeing.

Trained in contemporary and modern jazz, my passion lies in improvisation, using movement to explore story, emotion, and embodied expression. I create and facilitate somatics & dance workshops, wellbeing & mental health programs, and therapeutic workshops with a variety of publics.

With roots in Vietnam and the United States, my relationship to dance is also shaped by questions of culture, colonialism, racism, and inherited histories. Dancing can be a process of decolonization. Through dance, I find space to embody, release, and imagine new possibilities of belonging.
